There are over 40 million movie tourists all word who are potentially interested in Italy, according to some estimates provided by the MIBACT Director General for Tourism in 2017. They are interested in in visiting the Italian locations of movie scenes such as La Dolce Vita and Angels and Demons, in Rome; La Vita è bella, The Gladiator, Under the Tuscan Sun in Tuscany or Dan Brown’s Inferno in Venice, among others.
The UNESCO city of Genoa will be part of MovieTravel’s pilot test.
In the UNESCO World Heritage site of Genoa’s Rolli, visitors feel inside a fairy tale from the late 16th century. Genoa is the capital of the Italian region of Liguria and has appeared in films such as A Summer in Genoa, Le mura di Malapaga and Grace of Monaco.
